What to Do at Dhaka Airport

Restaurants & Cafés

BFC (Biman Food Court)

BFC is a restaurant found within the international departure area that provides a diversity of dishes (Bangladeshi and international). Before boarding, travelers tend to make a stop and have a bite of rice or curries or just grab a snack.

Tabaq Coffee

This is an ordinary coffee shop, pastry, and light meal shop. It comes in handy when one is in a hurry to get a cup of coffee and then drive away early in the morning.

Pizza Hut Express

Pizza Hut has a quick-service restaurant that is usually selected by passengers who are interested in familiar international cuisine. It is handy in case of short layovers when you need something simple and substantial.

Local Snack Counters

The terminal has a series of small kiosks which offer traditional snacks, sweets, and tea. They are an excellent means to have local tastes without having to leave the airport.

Shops & Lifestyle Stores

Hazrat Shahjalal Duty Free

The duty-free section is the core part that sells perfumes, chocolates, tobacco products and spirits. A large number of tourists in Bangladesh leave behind them little gifts.

Aarong Airport Outlet

Aarong is a popular Bangladeshi lifestyle brand, which has a presence in the airport as a store. It markets local culture clothing, textiles, and souvenirs, which are handcrafted.

Travel Essentials Stores

Travel adapters, snacks, reading material, and last-minute needs are also sold in small retail shops all over the terminal.

Lounges & Relax Spots

Balaka Executive Lounge

This lounge is available to Biman Bangladesh Airlines premium customers and it serves buffet food, sitting space as well as quiet area where one can wait to board.

International Lounges / Skylounge

There are a number of other independent lounges which accept travelers either via lounge membership schemes or as paying customers. Their usual menu includes light meals, Wi-Fi, and comfortable seating.

Other Activities & Special Characteristics

The Airport of Dhaka might not be crowded with detailed entertainment spots, but little things can make the waiting time more enjoyable. Within a few of the terminals there are exhibits of Bangladeshi culture and handicrafts. The exhibitions are a reflection of the traditions and artistic heritage of the country in terms of textile.

You want to spend some more time before your flight, just pass by the terminal corridors and you can see the diversity of passengers - families returning home, employees coming to the Gulf, students going to other countries. It serves as a reminder of the fact that it is not only a transport center but a meeting point of stories.

In case of longer layovers, there are a number of hotels in close proximity to the airport, some of which include airport-area business hotels that have day-use rooms.

Recommended Itineraries of Layover

  • 3-Hour Layover (Remain in the Airport): Passing the security check, go through the duty-free zone and look at the local products. Get a cup of coffee at Tabaq or a fast bite at the food court. In the event that you get lounge passes, spend the remaining time there and board.
  • 5-6 Hours Layover (Short City Visit): Your temporary leave of the airport could be momentarily, provided that the immigration regulations permit it. The airport grounds are in touch with Dhaka north where within a short taxi ride, there are restaurants and cafes. Get into the airport at least two hours before boarding the next flight.
  • 8 or More Hours of In-Between Time (Half-Day Exploration): When the layover is longer, one can visit Gulshan or Banani which are the more organized parts of Dhaka and have restaurant and shopping facilities. Travel time requires a lot of time and therefore one must always be sure that he/she has sufficient time to get back to the airport.
